Dairy products, including cheese, are important components of the food security in Egypt. Cheese is very popular with Egyptian consumers and is considered essential to local cuisine. The adoption of modern technology and production methods paved the way for the growth in the dairy sector.
Competition in the dairy industry is limited to six major players. Market domination by these players raises concerns of overpricing to consumers. Cheese industry records a retail value growth of 16% and volume growth of 9% in 2016.
More than 95% of the soft cheese is made from vegetable oils, mainly palm oil.
