by Lim Teck Chaii
Soybean oil production in China has been rising, This rise in the production of soybean oil has been induced by the growing livestock industry. This is attributed to China’s population growth, income level increases and the urbanisation programme, which led the Chinese population to consume more meat. The changing consumption pattern resulted in rising livestock production. With rising soybean crushing and therefore the rising soybean oil production, the question arises on how palm oil imports into China are affected. This study is undertaken to understand the changing competitiveness of palm oil in China amidst China’s rising soybean oil production.
