Recently, an increasing number of policy initiatives revolve around the idea of the ‘circular economy’. The idea of the ‘circular economy’ is largely based on three principles: 1) To design out waste and pollution; 2) To keep products and materials in use; and 3) To regenerate natural systems. This article provides an overview of the current developments with respect to the ‘circular economy’, reviews relevant EU initiatives, and assesses the possible implications of the turn towards a more ‘circular’ economy for oil palm cultivation, palm oil production, as well as palm oil trade and use |
