With a population of about 11 million, Tunisia is not only a producer and exporter of edible oil (olive oil) but also importer of oils and fats. Tunisia currently is one of the largest producers of olive oil. Apart from olive production, Tunisia’s oilseed production remains insignificant despite the Ministry of Agriculture’s efforts to encourage farmers to grow rapeseed and sunflower crops in order to diversify oilseed production.
