Nepal and Bhutan are landlocked countries and vastly covered by mountains and hilly terrain. The geographical layout of the countries especially the mountainous terrain restricts the land use option especially agriculture.
Maldives, a small island in the Southwest of India, is a well known tourist destination. Agriculture and manufacturing are insignificant due to limited availability of cultivable land and the shortage of domestic labor.
Despite the constraints, agriculture is considered the most important source of income for the population in the region. Most of the population involve in subsistence farming and animal husbandry. The countries are also dependent on imports to supplement domestic requirement of food items and most of the trade is done through neighboring country especially India.
